During Easter Sunday in Tzin Tzun Tzan, a small town in southern Mexico celebrates the Holy Week with religious processions and ceromonies. One of which is a group of volunteers called, "Los Flagellentes" or floggers who whip themselves on the back with nail studded cords to repent their sins through pain. These groups wear a hood to protect their anomonity. They also carry a heavy wooden cross to each of many (around 20) prayer stations scattered around the town, where they would pray and flog themselves on their back at each station. They run with a few helpers who gives the flagellente moral support but are not allowed to talk or aid the volunteer except to hold the cross while they pray.
